A Sampling of Offerings Include
IT Security
The Information Technology (IT) Security and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Systems course will address the security measures that must be taken when handling Electronic Patient Health Information under the HIPAA Security Rule. The course will allow participants to either work through processes needed to implement EMR systems or improve the security around their existing EMR as they begin to implement HIV capacity building. It will also suggest best practices and strategies that can be adopted by organizations to protect confidential information (e.g., HIV test results) from unauthorized access both inside and outside of the organization's walls.
Recruitment and Retention of Youth
The Recruitment and Retention of Young Adults and Adolescents into Care course is designed for primary care providers that want to increase their capacity to respond to the needs of persons living with HIV and AIDS. More specifically, the course focuses on adolescents and young adults and the unique challenges associated with engaging them in medical care.
A Systems Approach
The Systems Approach to the Management of HIV Care course will provide SNHC by EPMC participants with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of system gaps that impede HIV primary care, and discuss how multiple factors influence patient adherence from four different perspectives [Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, and Administrators].
Employing HIV Positive Staff
The Employing HIV-Positive Staff: Application of the Law into HR Policy course will identify key legal issues that arise in employing individuals with HIV/AIDS from recruitment to termination. It will address federal laws that protect individuals from discrimination based on disability as well as laws that require employers to make reasonable accommodations. This training will assist participants in gaining knowledge of the law and then working through how to turn that law into sound HR policies and procedures.
